Maida Coleman (born July 1, 1954) was a Democratic member of the Missouri Senate, representing the 5th District when she won a special election in February 2002. She is currently the minority floor leader. Previously she was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives from 2001 through 2002.

Coleman is a graduate of Lincoln University of Missouri with a degree in journalism. She has three children: John, Alaina and James. She currently resides in St. Louis, Missouri.
Coleman officially announced she is running for Mayor of the City of St. Louis against fellow Democratic Party member Francis Slay. Although Coleman decided not to run on January 2, 2009, the last day to enter race, because another candidate with the same last name entered the race the very same day. Coleman believed that she was being "targeted" and claimed "conspiracy". [1] She announced she will run for mayor as an Independent.
